EVERY LIL' DRAGON IS REQUIRED TO COMPETE IN A MINIMUM OF 1 WEST COAST ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT BEFORE GRADUATING FROM THE LIL' DRAGON PROGRAM.

TOURNAMENT RULES & POLICIES

  1. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION IS SUBMITTED ONLINE AT ERNIEREYES.COM.
  2. PARTICIPANTS ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR THEIR FULL WEST COAST WORLD MARTIAL ARTS ASSOCIATION UNIFORMS WITH ALL REQUIRED WCWMA PATCHES CORRECTLY ATTACHED TO THEIR UNIFORMS.
  3. SPARRING COMPETITORS MUST HAVE ALL REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT INCLUDING MOUTH PIECE AND GROIN CUP (MALES) IN ORDER TO COMPETE. ANY MISSING SAFETY EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT OF THE COMPETITOR BEING DISQUALIFIED FROM THEIR DIVISION EVENT.
  4. DAMAGED OR STAINED UNIFORMS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE USED IN TOURNAMENT EVENTS AND WILL RESULT IN EVENT DISQUALIFICATION. PLEASE BE SURE YOUR WCWMA UNIFORM IS CLEAN, PRESSED AND ODOR FREE.
  5. THERE ARE NO REFUNDS PROCESSED BY OUR WCWMA HEADQUARTERS FOR DIVISIONS MISSED OR IF A COMPETITOR IS DISQUALIFIED FOR MISSING EQUIPMENT OR SPORTSMANSHIP MISCONDUCT.
  6. PLEASE RESPECT THE SCORES AND RESULTS FROM THE HEAD JUDGES.
  7. TOURNAMENT REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET FOR EACH BY STUDENTS FOR THEIR BELT LEVEL IN ORDER TO TEST FOR THEIR NEXT RANK. STUDENTS NOT MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WAIT 2 - 3 MONTHS UNTIL THEY WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO TEST.
  8. TOURNAMENT REQUIREMENTS ARE SET BY WCWMA FOUNDERS AND CANNOT BE ALTERED OR SUBSTITUTED BY A STUDENT'S INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL.
  9. TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION IS TRACKED BY THE WCWMA HEADQUARTERS.

SCORING FOR FORM DIVISIONS:

  • ESTABLISHING A BASE SCORE
    • THE FIRST 3 COMPETITORS IN THE DIVISON DO THEIR FORM WITHOUT BEING SCORED RIGHT AWAY.  WHEN THE THIRD COMPETITOR FINISHES, THE FIRST PERSON WILL COME BACK UP AND RECEIVE THEIR SCORE FOLLOWED BY THE 2ND & 3RD COMPETITOR.  ONCE THE FIRST 3 COMPETITORS RECEIVE THEIR SCORES, ALL FOLLOWING COMPETITORS RECEIVE THEIR SCORES IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THEIR FORM.
  • EACH BELT RANK HAS A PRE-DETERMINED STANDARDIZED SCORE.
    • LIL' DRAGONS: 6.0 - 7.0
    • WHITE / ORANGE / GOLD BELTS: 6.0 - 7.0
    • GREEN - BLUE I BELTS: 7.0 - 8.0
    • BROWN - RED/BLACK BELTS: 8.0 - 9.0
    • BLACK BELTS: 9.0 - 10.0
  • SCORING RANGE
    • 8.0 / 8.1: COMPETITOR DID NOT KNOW THEIR FORM AND COULD NOT FINISH THE EVENT.
    • 8.2 / 8.3: COMPETITOR FINISHED THEIR FORM BUT NEEDED ASSISTANCE FROM THE HEAD JUDGE.
    • 8.4: COMPETITOR KNEW THEIR FORM BUT LACKED NECESSARY TECHNIQUE / SKILL FOR THEIR BELT LEVEL.
    • 8.5: COMPETITOR COMPLETED THEIR FORM BUT LACKED INTENSITY / DYNAMIC IN THEIR TECHNIQUES.
    • 8.6: COMPETITOR FINISHED THEIR FORM WITH IMBALANCE IN THEIR TECHNIQUE
      • GOOD TECHNIQUE BUT LACK OF INTENSITY
      • GOOD INTENSITY BUT LACK OF ATTENTION TO DETAIL (FOOT POSITION ON KICKS FOR EXAMPLE)
      • MINOR LOSS OF BALANCE BETWEEN MOVEMENTS.
    • 8.7: COMPETITOR DEMONSTRATED BOTH INTENSITY & TECHNIQUE BUT TIMING OF TECHNIQUE(S) WAS OFF.
    • 8.8: COMPETITOR DEMONSTRATED SPEED & INTENSITY IN THEIR MOVEMENTS AND FINISHED THEIR FORM WITH MINOR MISTAKES.
    • 8.9: COMPETITOR DEMONSTRATED NEAR PERFECT SKILL / ABILITY FOR THEIR BELT LEVEL.
    • 9.0: COMPETITOR'S FORM WAS NEAR FLAWLESS FOR THEIR BELT LEVEL.
  • TIE-BREAKERS:
    • COMPETITORS WHO TIE IN THEIR DIVISION PERFORM THE SAME FORM AGAIN.
      • IF 3 OR MORE COMPETITORS TIE, THEY ARE RE-SCORED.
      • IF 2 COMPEITORS TIE, JUDGES WILL POINT TO WHO THEY FEEL WON.  2 OF THE 3 JUDGES DETERMINE THE WINNER.

  • EVERY JUDGE HAS THEIR OWN INTERPRETATION OF THE REQUIRED FORMS & DETAILS / SKILLS THEY LOOK FOR IN FORM COMPETITIONS.
  • AS JUDGES, WE ARE FAR FROM PERFECT AND WE DO MAKE MISTAKES FROM TIME TO TIME.  IF YOU DO CATCH A MISTAKE MADE BY A JUDGE SUCH AS CALLING THE WRONG PERSON FORWARD OR MIS-CALCULATION OF POINTS SCORED, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO PULL ONE OF THE SIDE JUDGES TO DOUBLE ALL SCORES FOR IN-ACCURACIES.  
  • MASTER INSTRUCTORS / TOURNAMENT ARBITRATORS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE IF YOU CATCH A MISTAKE MADE BY THE RING JUDGES. 
  • PLEASE KEEP THE ATMOSPHERE FOR THE COMPETITORS AS POSITIVE AS POSSIBLE.

SPARRING COMPEITION

GENERAL INFO:

  • TIME LIMIT:
    • THERE IS A 2 MINUTE TIME LIMIT FOR EACH SPARRING ROUND.  THE CLOCK RUNS CONTINUOUSLY ONCE THE MATCH BEGINS.  THE HEAD JUDGE CAN STOP THE CLOCK FOR EQUIPMENT FALLING OFF, INJURY OR A PROBLEM WITH SCORING.
  • POINTS:
    • 1 POINT AWARDED FOR CLEAR PUNCHES TO THE CHEST PROTECTOR (JABS DO NOT COUNT).
    • 1 POINT AWARDED FOR A CLEAR HAND TECHNIQUE TO THE HEAD WITH NO CONTACT.
    • 2 POINTS AWARDED FOR A CLEAR KICK TO THE CHEST PROTECTOR.
    • 2 POINTS AWARDED FOR A CLEAR KICKING TECHNIQUE CLOSE TO THE HEAD WITH NO CONTACT.
  • DETERMINING A WINNER:
    • THE PERSON WITH THE MOST AMOUNT OF POINTS AFTER 2 MINUTES.
    • THE PERSON THAT IS 1ST TO SCORE 5 POINTS.
    • THE PERSON WHO'S OPPONENT WAS DISQUALIFIED CONTACT TO THE BODY OR HEAD.
  • TIE BREAKERS:
    • IF AT THE END OF THE 2 MINUTES WHERE BOTH COMPETITORS HAVE SCORED THE SAME AMOUNT OF POINTS, A SUDDEN DEATH ROUND (NO TIME LIMIT) WILL BE STARTED WHERE THE WINNER IS DETERMINED BY 1ST FIGHTER TO SCORE A POINT.
  • LATE ENTERIES:
    • A COMPETITOR CAN ENTER THEIR DIVISION LATE ONLY DURING THE 1ST ROUND.  ONCE THE 2ND ROUND BEGINS, NO ADDITIONAL COMPETITORS WILL BE ALLOWED TO JOIN.

RULES:

  1. NO HEAD CONTACT
    1. 1ST OFFENSE: WARNING & 1 POINT AWARDED TO THE OPPONENT.
    2. 2ND OFFENSE: DISQUALIFICATION
    3. A COMPETITOR WILL BE DISQUALIFIED ON THE 1ST OFFENSE FOR A HEAD STRIKE WITH THE INTENT (NO CONTROL) TO HIT / INJURE THEIR OPPONENT.
  2. NO EXCESSIVE CONTACT TO THE BODY
    1. ANY KICK CAUSING CLEAR INJURY OR SEVER DISCOMFORT WILL RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION.
  3. EVERY COMPETITOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR EQUIPMENT.
  4. ALL COMPETITORS ARE EXPECTED TO DEMONSTRATE SPORTSMANSHIP BEFORE / DURING / AFTER THE DIVSION ENDS.

  • PICK UP YOUR BOARDS AT THE FRONT DESK BEFORE THE TOURNAMENT.
  • BOARDS CAN BE PURCHASED AT THE TOURNAMENT AT THE MERCHANDISE TABLE FOR $5.00 PER BOARD.
    • THE WCWMA DOES NOT PROVIDE BOARDS TO THE COMPETITORS.

SCORING

A COMPETITOR'S SCORE IS DETERMINED ON THE FOLLOWING:

  1. DIFFICULTY OF TECHNIQUE
  2. NUMBER OF TRIES NEEDED TO BREAK EACH BOARD
  3. CREATIVITY
